The Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship Scheme (VCIS) is a scholarship that targets exceptional international students who are enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate coursework full degrees.

This scholarship supports high-achieving international students who are commencing their studies at the University of Sydney.

The VCIS is only offered at the beginning of a coursework degree, i.e. it is only awarded once in the first year of commencement of study and is not renewable.

What does the scholarship cover?

This scholarship program offers four scholarship amounts based on ranking against selection criteria. These are:

  • $40,000 payable for one year in two equal installments per semester.
  • $20,000 payable for one semester.
  • $10,000 payable for one semester
  • $5,000 payable for one semester

NOTE: The availability of some amounts may be limited to specified cohorts.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an international student.
  • Have applied for but not yet commenced an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at the University of Sydney.
  • Secured an Unconditional Offer of Admission by the application deadline.
  • Not be in receipt of any other tuition scholarship or sponsorship administered by the University of Sydney, of a value exceeding A$10,000 per annum.
  • Have applied for but not yet commenced a bachelor’s degree or a coursework master’s degree that is a CRICOS registered award program.

NOTE: Applicants commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney are eligible provided they have not previously held the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships

How Do I Apply – Next Steps

There is no separate application is required for the scholarship.

All eligible applicants holding unconditional offers by the specified deadline will be automatically considered for the scholarship.

Selection Criteria

Academic merit
Nomination by a selection committee consisting of two nominees, i.e. the Executive Director of Sydney Future Students and one nominee from the Admissions Office.
