The Centre of African Studies, with the generous support of a donor, has set up the Nyerere Postgraduate Scholarship to allow talented Tanzanian students to follow in Mwalimu Nyerere’s footsteps and study at the University of Edinburgh.

This one-year postgraduate scholarship is offered to students domiciled in Tanzania.

What does the scholarship cover?

  • Tuition fees.
  • An annual stipend paid in quarterly installments

NOTE:

  • The award lasts only one year.
  • This scholarship cannot be held alongside any other scholarship.
  • The scholarship does not cover visa application costs and airfare.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for this scholarship, you should:

  • Be domiciled in Tanzania.
  • Have obtained the equivalent of a UK first class or 2.1 Honors degree at the undergraduate level in a Humanities or Social Science subject.
  • Have first applied for admission to the MSc African and International Development Programme.
  • Be accepted to the MSc African and International Development Programme on a full-time basis.

  • Copies of your degree certificates along with academic transcripts
    A personal statement indicating your academic history, experience, and skills.
  • References.
  • Evidence of competence in written and spoken English (if English is not your first language).
  • Certified translations of all your documents if they are not in English.
  • A statement on what Nyerere’s legacy means to you and how this legacy influences your future ambitions.
